Liked The service. The friendly and helpful staff. The unique experience of staying a Peranakan cottage like.
Disliked Going up the stairs with heavy bags (the staff helped us) , but a lift would have been nice.
Liked Very impressive historical property furnished with mid to high grade antiques and vintage furniture and objects. Very good breakfast food, which consists of a spread of high quality local dishes and Nyonya kueh curated and purchased from local restaurants and coffeeshops by the hotel.
Disliked Disappointing service attitude and guest policies. First, when we arrived at the property, we rang the front doorbell. A man answered the doorbell with a frown on his face and asked "what do you want?" in a curt way. I said we had a reservation and his attitude changed and he explained where we could park our car. The room was not ready for check in and we went for lunch first. When we came back mid afternoon to check in, the same process repeated itself. A lady answered the door this time with a similarly confused and frowning expression. Perhaps they thought we were random tourists wanting to gawk at the interior. Again I told her we had a reservation and her attitude changed. Simply put, if you lock the front door and require guests to ring a bell upon arrival, then don't be surprised or confused when we do, and it does not hurt to smile. Later there was an episode with (in my view) insincere communication regarding the hotel's policies which I will not reveal further details in public. These different incidents lead me to conclude that the hotel service team and owner put on a facade of polite and friendly service, but do not fundamentally have a heart for good service a
Liked The building itself was fascinating and very comfortable as were the fabulous museum pieces throughout the property. Very comfortable bed and modern bathroom.

Liked We were impressed by how clean and modern the hotel was, and yet, it was filled with rich history and Peranakan heritage in every nook and corner. Everything about our stay was wonderful, especially the outstanding staff. They were incredibly warm, welcoming, and took the time to recommend nearby attractions and restaurants. I even accidentally left my shoes behind after checking out, and Chester kindly arranged to courier them back to me—such a thoughtful gesture that went above and beyond. Breakfast was another highlight. We especially loved the Nyonya curry laksa, bihun siam, and the wide selection of Nyonya kuih - truly delicious.. Our room was spacious and thoughtfully stocked with a generous assortment of complimentary snacks and drinks. The bed was firm yet comfortable, and after walking about in the sweltering June heat, returning to a cool, relaxing room was the perfect respite. The location is unbeatable—right in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and within walking distance of the Stadthuys, A Famosa, the Melaka River, and Jonker Street. We only spent one night here, but it was memorable and we'll surely be back.
Disliked Nothing at all.
Liked 5 Heeren is a delight to the senses and an unforgettable accommodation experience for lovers of nostalgia especially Nyonya and Baba (Peranakan) culture. It is an exclusive and premium accommodation offering a window into one of Malacca's cultural roots. The property is reminiscent of a lovingly and slowly built mini museum. It has a charming cluttered feel and yet so engaging in its uniqueness and beauty. We delighted in the property’s incredibly long structural layout, restored fit out – lots of hand made glass light fittings, beautiful and authentic finishings and furnishings. The guest room was clean, cosy, fitted with warm lighting and furnished with genuine period pieces. The solid wood 4 poster bed added a touch of nostalgia. On a slightly different note, the bathroom was updated and contemporary. Accommodation was clean and spacious. Breakfast was included and came with a large variety including Peranakan style classics like white chicken with rice ball, nasi lemak, rendang, roti canai, nyonya laksa not to mention a wonderful array of local deserts (kuih-muih). Simple but nice beverages like coffee, tea and its variants were offered. The eating venue was in the s
Disliked Nothing. It would be even better if the breakfast were a bit warmer.
